There are many colourful flower beds at Mooramong, in both the inner and outer gardens, including a lovely sunken garden with low stone walls adjacent to the pool cabana. There are a number of rare plants in the gardens and also some uncommon and quite unusual trees in the 12 acres of parkland within the homestead precinct.
When Claire Adams Mackinnon arrived at Mooramong in 1938 with her husband Donald 'Scobie' Mackinnon, she almost immediately set about re-modelling the homestead into a building much more familiar to her in style, something that was at that time straight out of contemporary Hollywood. Complimentary Guided Tours of this extraordinary residence will be available from 12.00 - 2.00 at our annual events, in between having a good time.
The Edna Walling influence can be clearly seen in this area, which features rolling lawns and meandering garden beds amongst some interesting established trees. The original watercolour design for the garden by Edna Walling can be viewed inside Mooramong homestead. Bring picnic chairs or a rug and thoroughly enjoy these beautiful surroundings.
ACCOMMODATION IS AVAILABLE ON-SITE. There are also three charming and extremely well appointed 3BR cottages located within the homestead precinct, each with their own lovely gardens. So why not get a group of friends and book in to stay for the weekend. You can even bring your bestest four-legged friends along to really enjoy the property's space and seclusion! Surrounded by lovely gardens within a parklike setting that includes many established trees, an orchard, tennis court and a number of historic outbuildings, the property is a very peaceful retreat from the busy modern world.
