The Secret Garden Wildes Meadow

The Secret Garden is a hidden treasure nestled in the beautiful rural surrounds of Wildes Meadow. It is a 5 acre garden with a number of garden rooms, a cherry blossom walk, banks of Rhododendrons and Azaleas, a gazebo overlooking an ornamental lake, a 20-meter long wisteria covered arbour, natural woodland, and probably the best display of alpine phlox in the district. It also has kitchen garden, a cutting garden full of seasonal flowers and an orchard.

Stunning Alpine phlox

The Secret Garden has an outstanding display of Phlox subulata or Alpine Phlox. It is a prostrate groundcover which produces masses of star-shaped flowers in white and shades of lavender, pink or purple in spring. It makes a stunning display for up to 4 weeks creating blankets of intense colour throughout the garden. It is also an excellent weed suppressing ground cover.

Visitor Comments

We were lucky enough to visit this garden for the recent open weekend and were utterly delighted and very impressed by its design and beauty. Such a credit to the owner and family, after 27 years in the making. So many beautiful features, and different garden areas to view. Thank you for sharing it with others. Roslyn - October 2020
