Little Hartley, NSW, 2790

Hartvale is nestled on five gently undulating acres at the base of Mt York with stunning valley & escarpment views to Mt Clarence. Predominantly a cottage garden filled with lavender, penstemons, salvias, roses and dahlias, the grounds also feature a Potager garden, cute hothouse, kitchen garden area and art studio. Designed by a builder and an artist/counsellor, the gardens are all about vivid splashes of colour, space and joy. Hartvale is at its best in Spring and Autumn.

Cottage Gardens

The cottage gardens are best in Spring. The garden is a splash of colour when a sea of red Flanders Poppies - that reappear like friends every year- combine with lavender, pink opium poppies and irises. Another colourful time is in Autumn when the Dahlias, penstemons and Salvias bloom.

Art Studio & Garden

Nestled in the garden is the art (and counselling) studio where artworks by Jennifer Edwards are often for sale along with cards and prints.

The hothouse is used to grow broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower in Winter and to raise the seeds for the Potager garden (zuccinni, cucumbers, corn and tomatoes) for Spring planting.

Potager Garden

The fully fenced Potager garden (newly created in Winter 2020) is a mix of vegetables and flowers and features a 'she shed' for soaking up the atmosphere. A poly-tunnel where all the Winter veggies are grown completes the vegetable section.

The Views

Hartvale is nestled under Mount York with stunning cliff face views to the East and gorgeous views over the valley to Mount Clarence to the North.

Visited this beautiful garden in the last weekend of February, it was such a delightful garden to wander in and is a real credit to its creators. You can definitely see the artist hand at work in the placement of the plants and how the gardens related to the buildings. Another highlight was the fantastic artwork. The garden looks so established it is amazing to hear that it is only three years old. Definitely worth a visit

A lovely drive from Sydney on a Sunday and what a delight it was to see this new garden in Little Hartley. There was so much to see around every corner and the views were breathtaking. Colour was everywhere and a real delight and the owners building talents were outstanding and added extra charm. I look forward to visiting this garden again and seeing it grow and change.
